A visionary reimagining of one of Surry Hills’ heritage gems

No. 1 Lacey is the product of a singular vision, conceived by Cornerstone Property Group: a blending of the simple elegance of the past with the style and comfort of contemporary Sydney living, all situated right at the city’s vibrant fringe.

Building on the warehouse’s remarkable heritage character, the vision draws the raw beauty of this icon into the 21st century – creating a place that’s interwoven with the very fabric of Sydney’s history, while also drawing in elements of contemporary Parisian apartment-style living.

Bringing this ethos to the fore is the creation of a five-storey, open-air atrium at the building’s centre – a sculptural void that reveals the structure of the original warehouse, as well as creating a shared space for a verdant garden at its heart. To help realise their vision, Cornerstone enlisted the design talents of architect Iain Halliday and his prestigious company BKH – a group known for their refined and innovative take on heritage redevelopments.

Channelling Surry Hills’ new status as Sydney’s artistic hub, the warehouse’s shared areas are woven through with sculptural artworks: specially commissioned pieces that play off the building’s previous life as a factory in the luxury goods trade, ensuring a line of continuity that stretches back through the structure’s history.

More than just a residence, the building will also play a vital role in Surry Hills, with the frontage devoted to restaurants, cafes and boutique stores, creating a vibrant community hub at the doorstep of No. 1 Lacey.
